Why an IT Assessment Goes Out of Date

An IT assessment is a photograph. The day after it is taken, the estate starts to change again.

How an estate drifts

Nothing dramatic happens. A new application is approved before anyone checks where it stores data, and an administrator account outlives the project it was created for. A backup job stops after a migration, and its alerts go to a mailbox that is never read. A supplier contract renews without a review of the exit terms.

None of these is a crisis on the day it happens. Added together over two years, they are the difference between an estate you control and one that only looks controlled.

What a score can hold

A score is true on the day it is taken. It tells you where you stood against a fixed set of questions, and that makes it useful as a baseline.

It cannot tell you where you stand today unless someone asks the same questions again. A good result last year says nothing about the contractor who was given administrator access in March.

Recheck on a rhythm

Four times a year is frequent enough to catch drift before it settles in, and light enough that it does not turn into a project.

Compare movement as well as position. A pillar that improves while another one slips shows you where attention went and where it did not, and a total that stays flat can hide both.

Keep the questions the same. If the questions change, you are comparing two different things and the movement means nothing.

Doing it yourself

You can run a simple recheck without us. Take the five questions that carried the greatest weight in your last assessment, answer them again with evidence, and write down what changed. The habit matters more than the format.

Put the date in the diary now. A recheck that depends on someone remembering will not happen in a busy quarter.

Where Managed Sovereignty fits

Managed Sovereignty is the optional recheck that follows a Sovereignty Index®. It gives you four reviews a year, each with a defined output: a re-score against the Index, an architectural drift check and a forward roadmap for your leadership team. It is billed quarterly at a fixed fee, there is no minimum term and you can cancel before your next review.

You can read the detail on the Managed Sovereignty page.

Book a 15-minute call and we will agree how often your estate needs rechecking.
